Mini Biography
Born: 6 February 1922, Paddington, London, England.Â
Patrick Macnee was born into a family with strong ties to the world of entertainment. His father, Daniel Macnee, was a racehorse trainer while his mother Dorothea Mary Hastings Revercomb hailed from an affluent background. Despite their divorce when he was young, they both encouraged and supported Patrick’s passion for acting.
Growing up primarily in Berkshire and attending Summer Fields School in Oxfordshire followed by Eton College near Windsor Castle provided him with opportunities to explore various artistic pursuits. However, it wasn’t until later that he decided to pursue acting seriously.
After serving briefly during World War II as part of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (RNVR), Macnee embarked on his journey towards becoming one of Britain’s most beloved actors. He began honing his craft at London’s Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art before making his stage debut in 1947.
In the early years of his career, Macnee took on a variety of roles across film and television productions. However, it was his portrayal of John Steed in “The Avengers” that catapulted him to international fame. The spy-fi series aired from 1961 to 1969 and featured stylish espionage adventures alongside Diana Rigg (as Emma Peel) among others.
