Noel Fielding is an English comedian and actor who is known for his surreal and dark humour. He has a French grandmother and a half-brother, Michael, who also appears in his comedy shows. He grew up in a party-loving household and was mostly raised by his grandmother. His mother died of liver complications when he was 17 years old.
Noel Fielding studied at Croydon Art College and Buckinghamshire New University, where he met Julian Barratt, his future comedy partner. They formed The Mighty Boosh, a comedy troupe that won the Perrier Award for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1998. They later created a radio series and a TV show of the same name, which ran for three seasons on BBC Three from 2004 to 2007. The show featured Fielding’s eccentric characters such as Vince Noir, Old Gregg, and The Moon.
Besides The Mighty Boosh, Fielding has also appeared in several other comedy shows, such as Nathan Barley, The IT Crowd, AD/BC: A Rock Opera, and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. He also wrote and starred in his own solo show, Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, which aired for two seasons on Channel 4 from 2012 to 2014. He has also been a team captain on the BBC Two comedy panel show Never Mind the Buzzcocks from 2009 to 2015 and a guest on Richard Ayoade’s Travel Man series.
In 2017, Fielding became one of the co-presenters of The Great British Bake Off, a popular baking competition show on Channel 4. He has hosted the show alongside Sandi Toksvig, Matt Lucas and Alison Hammond. He is known for his quirky outfits and jokes on the show.
Noel Fielding is also an artist and a musician. He has exhibited his paintings in London and collaborated with Fendi for their autumn/winter 2021 menswear collection. He is the founder of the band Loose Tapestries, which he formed with Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno. He has also released a book of his art and comedy sketches, titled The Scribblings of a Madcap Shambleton.
Noel Fielding has been in a relationship with radio presenter Lliana Bird since 2010. They have two daughters, Dali and Iggy, who were born in 2018 and 2020 respectively. He lives in Highgate, London, with his family.
