Mini Biography
Born: 8 March 1989, Esher, Surrey, England.
Kate Phillips’s journey into the world of acting began after her formal education. She attended the University of Leeds, where she developed her craft before securing a place at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Kate Phillips’s passion for acting was evident from an early age. After completing her studies at Leeds, she returned to the city to perform as Abigail Williams in “The Crucible” at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. This was a pivotal moment in her career, as she had already filmed her scenes for the BBC’s adaptation of “Wolf Hall” as Jane Seymour, a role offered to her while she was still at Guildhall.
Kate Phillips’s portrayal of Jane Seymour in “Wolf Hall” (2015) brought her widespread recognition. Her performance was met with critical acclaim, even amidst mild controversy regarding her appearance, which some historians deemed ‘too pretty’ for the role. Critics, however, praised her acting and Screen Daily named her a ‘Star of Tomorrow’.
Following “Wolf Hall,” Kate Phillips appeared in the miniseries “War & Peace” (2016), and the first season of “The Crown” (2016), where she played Venetia Scott. Her role in “Peaky Blinders” (2016–2022) as Linda Shelby further solidified her status as a versatile actress. In 2019, she took on the role of Princess Mary in the film “Downton Abbey,” and since 2020, she has starred as Eliza Scarlet in the Victorian-era crime drama “Miss Scarlet and The Duke”.
