Jared Harris is a British actor who has appeared in various TV shows and films, such as Mad Men, The Crown, Chernobyl, and Foundation. He was born in London, the son of Irish actor Richard Harris and Welsh actress Elizabeth Rees-Williams. He has two brothers, Damian and Jamie, who are also in the entertainment industry.
ared Harris attended Ladycross School and Downside School in England, before moving to the U.S. to study drama at Duke University. He graduated in 1984 and returned to England to train at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He made his film debut in 1989 with The Rachel Papers, and went on to direct and star in Darkmoor, an unfinished project.
Jared Harris gained recognition for his roles as Lane Pryce in Mad Men, King George VI in The Crown, and Valery Legasov in Chernobyl. He received Emmy nominations for the latter two, and won a BAFTA TV Award for Chernobyl. He also played David Robert Jones in Fringe, Anderson Dawes in The Expanse, and Captain Francis Crozier in The Terror. In 2021, he starred as Hari Seldon in Foundation, based on Isaac Asimov’s novels.
Jared Harris has been married three times. His first wife was Jacqueline Goldenberg, whom he divorced in 1992. His second wife was actress Emilia Fox, whom he married in 2005 and divorced in 2010. His current wife is lighting designer Allegra Riggio, whom he married in 2013. He has no children. He is a fan of Arsenal F.C. and enjoys playing chess and golf. He holds both British and American citizenship.
