Born: 6 September, 1972, Hackney, London, England.
Idris Elba was born and raised in Hackney, East London, to immigrant parents from Sierra Leone and Ghana. Growing up in a working-class family, he faced challenges but found solace in his love for acting.
After completing his schooling, Elba went on to study at the National Youth Music Theatre in London, where he honed his acting skills and developed a deep understanding of the craft. His dedication and talent were evident, leading him to secure a place at the prestigious National Youth Theatre.
Elba’s breakthrough came in 2002 when he landed the role of Stringer Bell in the critically acclaimed American television series “The Wire.”
Following this success, Elba continued to make waves on both the small and big screens. He delivered memorable performances in projects such as “Luther,” where he portrayed the brilliant but troubled detective John Luther, earning him a Golden Globe Award. Elba’s filmography includes notable roles in movies such as “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” “Beasts of No Nation,” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Heimdall in the “Thor” and “Avengers” films.
