Tom Hollander is an actor, producer and writer who has appeared in films, theatre and television, known for his roles in comedies and historical dramas. He was born on 25 August 1967 in Bristol, England, to academic and musical parents. His father is a Czech Jew who converted to Catholicism, and his mother is English. He was raised in Oxford, where he attended the Dragon School and Abingdon School. He was involved in acting from a young age, joining the National Youth Theatre and the National Youth Music Theatre. He also starred in a BBC adaptation of Leon Garfield’s John Diamond when he was 14.

Tom Hollander studied English at Selwyn College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Footlights and the president of the Marlowe Society. He performed in several plays directed by his childhood friend Sam Mendes, such as Cyrano de Bergerac, The Cherry Orchard, and Kean. He also appeared in the Cambridge Footlights Revue.

After graduating, Tom Hollander pursued a career in theatre, winning the Ian Charleson Award in 1992 for his performance as Witwoud in The Way of the World at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. He was nominated for the same award twice more, for his roles as Tartuffe and Khlestakov. He also received nominations for the Olivier Award and the Tony Award for his portrayal of Henry Carr in Tom Stoppard’s Travesties.

Tom Hollander made his film debut in 1996, appearing in True Blue and Some Mother’s Son. He gained attention for his roles as Mr. Collins in Joe Wright’s Pride & Prejudice and as Lord Cutler Beckett in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He also starred in films such as Gosford Park, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Valkyrie, In the Loop, Hanna, About Time, The Invisible Woman, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and Bohemian Rhapsody.

He is also known for his television roles, such as the lead role in the BBC sitcom Rev., which he co-wrote and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for best sitcom several times. He won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the BBC series The Night Manager. He played King George V in The Lost Prince, King George III in John Adams, and Alfred Pennyworth in Harley Quinn.

Tom Hollander has a son with his partner, writer and director Fran Godwin. He is a patron of several charities, such as the Teenage Cancer Trust, the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, and Scene & Heard. He is also a supporter of the Labour Party and a vocal critic of Brexit.
