Born: December 16, 1984, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England.
Theodore Peter James Kinnaird Taptiklis, known professionally as Theo James was raised in Askett, a small village in Buckinghamshire, Theo is the youngest of five siblings. His father, Philip Taptiklis, is a business consultant, and his mother, Jane, worked for the National Health Service. Theo’s heritage is a blend of Greek from his paternal grandfather and Scottish descent.
Theo James’s early education was at Aylesbury Grammar School, followed by a degree in philosophy from the University of Nottingham. His interest in the arts led him to train at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Theo James’s acting career began with television, debuting in “A Passionate Woman” in 2010. He gained wider recognition as Turkish diplomat Kemal Pamuk in the acclaimed series “Downton Abbey.” His early film work includes “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” (2010), where he was cast while still in drama school.
The turning point in Theo’s career came with his portrayal of Tobias “Four” Eaton in “The Divergent Series” film trilogy (2014–2016). This role catapulted him into the limelight and established him as a leading actor in Hollywood. He also starred in the “Underworld” series, playing the character David alongside Kate Beckinsale.
In television, Theo’s notable works include the crime drama “Golden Boy” and the dark comedy series “The White Lotus,” which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. In 2024, he took on the lead role in Guy Ritchie’s action comedy series “The Gentlemen.”
On the personal front, Theo James is married to Irish actress Ruth Kearney since 2018. The couple have two children.
