Sally Lindsay is an English actress and television presenter who has appeared in various TV shows, such as Coronation Street, Mount Pleasant, and The Madame Blanc Mysteries.
Sally Lindsay’s first television appearance was at the age of seven on Top of the Pops when her school choir, the St Winifred’s School Choir, released There’s No One Quite Like Grandma, which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1980. She attended St. Winifred’s Primary School and St Anne’s RC High School in Stockport. She studied English at the University of Hull and had aspirations of becoming a journalist. However, she was cast in a play and enjoyed the experience, and then studied at North Cheshire Theatre School before dabbling in stand-up comedy.
Sally Lindsay met and became friends with comedian Peter Kay when she was 24. They appeared together in Phoenix Nights and in the video for the Comic Relief single Is This the Way to Amarillo? In 2000, she appeared in an episode of The Royle Family, playing Twiggy’s girlfriend Michelle.
Sally Lindsay became known for her role as Shelley Unwin in the long-running ITV soap opera Coronation Street, which she played for five years from 2001 to 2006. She won the Best Actress category in the Inside Soap 2005 Awards and returned for several episodes in 2006. She also filmed a documentary for the show to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2019.
Sally Lindsay has also starred in other TV shows, such as Loose Women, Still Open All Hours, Tenable, Pointless, and The Madame Blanc Mysteries. She co-created and co-wrote the Sky One comedy series Mount Pleasant, in which she played Lisa Johnson from 2011 to 2017. She also played the daughter of Pauline Collins in Mount Pleasant and of Tracie Bennett in Scott & Bailey.
Sally Lindsay married drummer Steve White in 2013 and they have twin sons, Victor and Louie, born in 2010. She is friends with Alan Carr, Gok Wan, Carol Vorderman, Denise Welch, Suranne Jones and Antony Cotton, who were all present at her wedding.
