Born to a Swedish father and a British mother, Rebecca Ferguson Sundström embarked on a remarkable journey to stardom, transitioning from Swedish soap operas to Hollywood blockbusters. Her talent, resilience and captivating screen presence have solidified her position as a sought-after actress, earning her critical acclaim and a loyal fan base.
From an early age, Ferguson displayed an affinity for performing arts, actively participating in theatre productions and dance classes. She attended Adolf Fredrik’s Music School in Stockholm, where she developed her vocal and musical abilities. At the age of 13, she began modeling, appearing in print advertisements and television commercials.
Rebecca Ferguson’s acting career took off in 1999 when she landed the role of Anna Gripenhielm in the Swedish soap opera “Nya Tider.” Her performance garnered recognition and opened doors to other Swedish TV projects like “Beck” and “Beyond the Sea.”
In 2004, Ferguson ventured into the film industry with the horror thriller “Drowning Ghost,” followed by the Swedish drama “A One-Way Trip to Antibes” in 2011. This film, directed by Richard Hobert, marked a turning point in her career, attracting the attention of Hollywood producers.
In 2013, Ferguson’s breakthrough came in the form of the BBC historical drama “The White Queen,” where she portrayed Elizabeth Woodville, the Queen consort of King Edward IV of England. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film, catapulting her into the international spotlight.
Ferguson’s Hollywood breakthrough came in 2015 with her role as MI6 agent Ilsa Faust in the action thriller “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” starring alongside Tom Cruise. She reprised her role in the subsequent sequels “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” (2018) and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” (2023).
Ferguson secretly married Rory St. Clair Gainer in late 2018. She announced the news in January 2019. Her teenage son had a special role in the ceremony as the ring bearer.
