Mini Biography
Born: 14 July 1985, Hammersmith, London, England.Â
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is an English actress, screenwriter and producer who has taken the television and film world by storm. Her work, characterised by sharp wit, unflinching honesty and a touch of the absurd, has garnered critical acclaim and a legion of devoted fans.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s artistic lineage is undeniable. Her grandfather, Cyprian Waller-Bridge, was an actor and BBC announcer and her sister, Isobel Waller-Bridge, is a composer. Educated at St Augustine’s Priory and later the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Waller-Bridge harboured a frustration with the limited roles offered to young women. This frustration, as one influential RADA director pointed out, could be channeled into a powerful creative force.

Early in her career, Waller-Bridge found success on stage, but it was the television world that became her true playground. In 2016, she created, wrote and starred in the BBC comedy-drama series “Fleabag.” The show, based on her own one-woman play, is a darkly comedic exploration of a young woman grappling with grief, family dysfunction and her own chaotic inner world. Waller-Bridge’s portrayal of Fleabag, a character who breaks the fourth wall to directly address the audience, was both hilarious and heartbreakingly vulnerable. “Fleabag” garnered critical praise, winning Waller-Bridge a BAFTA and three Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

While “Fleabag” cemented her status as a comedic genius, Waller-Bridge also showcased her talent as a writer and producer. In 2016, she created and wrote the Channel 4 sitcom “Crashing,” a show about a young couple forced to live with strangers after their marriage falls apart. The same year, she served as showrunner and executive producer for the first season of the critically acclaimed BBC America spy thriller series “Killing Eve.” The show, based on the Villanelle novels by Luke Jennings, explores the twisted cat-and-mouse game between a bored MI5 agent, Eve Polastri, and a psychopathic assassin, Villanelle. Waller-Bridge’s writing for “Killing Eve” earned her further Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
Beyond television, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has made her mark on the big screen as well. She co-wrote the screenplay for the 2018 Star Wars film “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and received sole screenplay credit for the 25th James Bond film, “No Time to Die,” released in 2021.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s personal life remains relatively private. Married briefly to Irish novelist and television writer Conor Woodman from 2014 to 2017, she continues to focus on her thriving career.
At just 38 years old, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has already established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. Her ability to seamlessly blend humour and drama, as well as her knack for creating complex and captivating characters, ensures that her future projects will be eagerly awaited by fans around the world.
