His career began to gain traction with a role in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers in 2001, but it was his transformative performance as Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen’s 2008 film Hunger that truly announced his arrival. Fassbender’s unwavering commitment to his roles became evident as he underwent a drastic weight loss for the part, earning critical acclaim and international recognition.

This collaboration with McQueen continued to yield powerful performances in films like Shame (2011), where he portrayed a sex addict with harrowing intensity, and 12 Years a Slave (2013), where his chilling portrayal of a brutal slave owner earned him an Academy Award nomination. He also found mainstream success in blockbusters, notably as Magneto in the X-Men franchise, showcasing his ability to inhabit complex characters across diverse genres.
