Christopher Catesby “Kit” Harington, is an English actor renowned for his role as Jon Snow in the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” His mother, a former playwright, named him after Christopher Marlowe, with “Kit” being the name he prefers. Harington discovered his full name only at the age of eleven. His father, Sir David Harington, is a businessman and baronet, and through his parents, Kit has noble ancestry, including historical figures such as Henry Dundas and Robert Catesby.
Kit Harington’s education began at Southfield Primary School and continued at Chantry High School in Martley. His passion for acting was ignited after watching a production of “Waiting for Godot” at fourteen. After completing his studies at Worcester Sixth Form College, where he studied Drama and Theatre, Harington was inspired by Ben Whishaw’s performance as Hamlet to pursue acting professionally. He moved back to London at eighteen and graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2008.
Kit Harington’s career began in theatre, with his professional acting debut in 2009 as Albert Narracott in the West End play “War Horse.” His breakthrough came with “Game of Thrones,” which earned him nominations for a Golden Globe Award and two Primetime Emmy Awards. His filmography includes roles in “Pompeii,” “Testament of Youth,” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Eternals.” He also lent his voice to the “How to Train Your Dragon” film series.
On a personal note, Kit Harington married his “Game of Thrones” co-star Rose Leslie in 2018, and they have two children together. Despite his on-screen fame, Harington has kept his personal life relatively private, focusing on his family and craft.
