Mini Biography

Born: 28 November 1988, Kingston upon Thames, London, England. 

Joe Cole, the eldest of five boys, grew up in a working-class environment, attending Hollyfield Secondary School in Surbiton. It was during this time that the seeds of his artistic side were sown. Accepted into the National Youth Theatre, a prestigious program nurturing young talent, Cole discovered a passion for acting.

His career began with small roles in one-night shows in London’s West End. He then transitioned to television with guest appearances on established shows like “The Bill” and “Holby City.” While building his screen presence, Cole also dabbled in theatre, participating in successful productions at the Bush Theatre.

The year 2013 marked a turning point for Cole. He landed the role of John Shelby in the period crime drama “Peaky Blinders.” This gritty and stylish series, set in the aftermath of World War I, propelled Cole into the spotlight. Playing the volatile younger brother of Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby, Cole brought a raw intensity and vulnerability to the character, captivating audiences worldwide. His portrayal of John Shelby over five seasons cemented his status as a rising star in British television.

Joe Cole didn’t limit himself to television success. In 2017, he took on a dark and challenging role in an episode of the anthology series “Black Mirror.” His performance as a desperate man trapped in a nightmarish situation earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor.

Joe Cole is married to Carly Cole.
