Born: 2 June 1990, Chelmsford, Essex, England.

Jack Lowden spent his formative years in the Scottish village of Oxton. Lowden was raised by his parents, Gordon and Jacquie Lowden, alongside his younger brother, Calum, who went on to become a ballet dancer. Lowden’s early exposure to the arts included dance classes, but he found his true passion in acting. At the age of ten, his parents enrolled him in the Scottish Youth Theatre in Edinburgh, marking the beginning of his journey in performance. He further developed his skills through summer classes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London during his teens.
Jack Lowden completed his formal training at the esteemed Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting in 2011.

His professional career began on stage, notably with a leading role in the National Theatre of Scotland’s revival of “Black Watch.” This critically acclaimed play toured the UK and the US, providing Jack Lowden with significant early recognition. His stage work also includes performances in “Chariots of Fire,” “Ghosts,” and “Measure for Measure,” earning him both the Ian Charleson Award and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Ghosts.”
Transitioning to screen, Lowden gained wider attention for his portrayal of Nikolai Rostov in the BBC miniseries “War & Peace” in 2016. This role served as a springboard for numerous film and television projects. His film credits include Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk,” “Mary Queen of Scots,” “Fighting with My Family,” and “Calibre.” In television, he has appeared in series such as “The Tunnel,” “The Passing Bells,” “The Long Song,” and “Small Axe.” He currently stars as River Cartwright in the Apple TV+ series “Slow Horses.”
In his personal life, Jack Lowden has been in a relationship with actress Saoirse Ronan since 2017. They reportedly married in July 2024.
