Born:14 July 1974, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.
David Mitchell is a comedian, actor and writer, best known for his partnership with Robert Webb and his role as Mark Corrigan in the sitcom Peep Show.
He was born in Salisbury to hotel managers Kathryn and Ian Mitchell. He has a younger brother, Daniel. He moved to Oxford when he was two years old, where his parents became lecturers at Oxford Polytechnic. He attended New College School and later Peterhouse, Cambridge, where he studied history and met Webb. He was also president of the Cambridge Footlights.
Mitchell and Webb began their comedy career in 1995, performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and writing for various radio and TV shows. They created and starred in several sketch shows, such as Bruiser, The Mitchell and Webb Situation, That Mitchell and Webb Sound, and That Mitchell and Webb Look. They also wrote and starred in their first film, Magicians, in 2007. Their most successful project was Peep Show, which ran for nine series from 2003 to 2015, and won several awards, including a BAFTA for Mitchell’s performance in 2009.
David Mitchell is also a frequent participant on British panel shows, such as QI, The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, Mock the Week, and Have I Got News for You. He is the team captain on Would I Lie to You?, and the host of The Unbelievable Truth on BBC Radio 4. He has also hosted or co-hosted other shows, such as The Bubble, Was It Something I Said?, and 10 O’Clock Live. He has written opinion pieces for The Observer and The Guardian, and published a memoir, Back Story, in 2012.
David Mitchell married Victoria Coren, a journalist, television presenter and professional poker player, in 2012. They have two children, Barbara and Michael. Mitchell is an atheist and a supporter of the Labour Party. He is also a fan of cricket and Doctor Who.
