Born: 7 March 1992, Hammersmith, London, England. 

In terms of her early life, Bel Powley grew up in a creative household. Her mother, Janis Jaffa, is a casting director, while her father, Mark Powley, is an actor. This nurturing environment undoubtedly played a crucial role in shaping her career path. Powley attended Holland Park School in London, where she further developed her acting skills.

Powley’s career highlights began to emerge in her teenage years. At 17, she made her professional stage debut in the play “Tusk Tusk” at the Royal Court Theatre. Her performance was critically acclaimed, earning her a nomination for the prestigious Evening Standard Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

However, it was Bel Powley’s breakthrough in the film industry that truly propelled her into the spotlight. In 2015, she starred in the independent film “The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” based on the novel by Phoebe Gloeckner. Powley’s portrayal of Minnie Goetze, a teenage girl navigating her way through love, sex, and self-discovery, garnered widespread praise. Her raw and honest performance showcased her exceptional talent and earned her numerous award nominations, including a British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Since then, Bel Powley has continued to impress audiences with her versatility and range. She has appeared in both independent films and major productions, showcasing her ability to tackle a diverse range of roles. Notable film credits include “A Royal Night Out,” “Mary Shelley,” and “White Boy Rick.”

In Disney’s “A Small Light” (2023) she played Miep Gies, a Dutch woman who played a crucial role in hiding Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis.
