Before gaining widespread recognition, Daniel Kaluuya made an early breakthrough with his role as Posh Kenneth in the British teen drama series “Skins.” From 2007 to 2009, he appeared in multiple episodes of this popular show that depicted the lives of a group of teenagers drifting through adolescence and facing its challenges.
In the dark comedy series “Psychoville,” created by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, Kaluuya portrayed the character of Michael Fry. The show, which aired from 2009 to 2011, followed a group of seemingly unconnected individuals who are all linked by mysterious events.
“The Fades,” a supernatural drama television series that aired from 2011 to 2012, featured Kaluuya as Mac Armstrong. In this critically acclaimed show created by Jack Thorne, teenagers face apocalyptic threats when they begin seeing spirits known as ‘fades.’
One of Kaluuya’s most prominent roles came in the critically acclaimed film “Get Out” (2017), directed by Jordan Peele. In this thought-provoking horror movie, he portrayed the lead character Chris Washington, a young African-American man visiting his white girlfriend’s family estate. Through his compelling performance, Kaluuya skillfully depicted the complex emotions and psychological torment experienced by his character.
Following the success of “Get Out,” Kaluuya continued to make waves in Hollywood with his versatility as an actor. He took on the role of W’Kabi in Marvel’s groundbreaking superhero film “Black Panther” (2018).
In addition to these notable projects, Kaluuya has also impressed audiences with his work on television. One standout role was in the popular anthology series “Black Mirror,” where he starred in the episode titled “Fifteen Million Merits” (2011).
In the film “Judas and the Black Messiah” (2021), Kaluuya delivers a powerful and captivating performance that further solidifies his status as one of the most talented actors of his generation. Directed by Shaka King, this biographical drama tells the story of Fred Hampton, chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party in late 1960s Chicago.
