Born into an accomplished family, Anna Popplewell is the eldest of three children. Her father, Lord Justice Sir Andrew Popplewell, is a Court of Appeal judge, while her mother, Debra Lomas, is a dermatologist with a degree from Newnham College, Cambridge. Hailing from London,
Upon completing her education at North London Collegiate School, where she served as a senior student in 2006-2007, Popplewell embarked on her academic journey at Oxford University, choosing to delve into English Language and Literature at Magdalen College.
Anna Popplewell’s breakout role came in 2005 when she was cast as Susan Pevensie in the highly anticipated film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s beloved fantasy novel, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Her portrayal of the wise and mature Susan, the eldest of the Pevensie siblings, won her critical acclaim and established her as a rising star in the world of cinema. She reprised her role in the 2008 sequel, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,” further cementing her place in the Narnia franchise.
Beyond the magical realm of Narnia, Anna Popplewell continued to expand her repertoire. In 2012, she starred as Chyler Silva in the live-action web series “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn,” based on the popular video game franchise. Her portrayal of a steadfast military cadet showcased her versatility and ability to seamlessly transition between genres.
In 2013, Popplewell took on her first leading role in the historical romantic drama series “Reign,” playing Lady Lola, a strong and intelligent character navigating the complex court of King Francis II of France. Her performance garnered praise for its depth and nuance, demonstrating her ability to embody complex characters with conviction.
Beyond her acting career, Popplewell is a passionate advocate for animal welfare. She serves as an ambassador for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), actively supporting their efforts to protect animals and promote responsible pet ownership.
In 2016, Popplewell married Sam Caird, a British actor and writer. The couple live in London and enjoy spending time with their two rescue dogs.
