Born: 20 April 1961, Emsworth, Hampshire, England.Â
Nicholas Lyndhurst was the son of Joe Lyndhurst and Liz Long. His parents met at a holiday camp managed by his grandfather, Francis Lyndhurst, a theatrical scenery painter and film director who had set up an early film studio in Shoreham Fort, Shoreham-by-Sea. Lyndhurst’s parents separated when he was young, but later reunited before separating permanently. When Lyndhurst was eight, his father had an affair and started a new family with another woman, leaving Lyndhurst and his mother in dire financial straits.
Lyndhurst attended East Wittering Primary School and Corona Theatre School in London.
Lyndhurst’s career highlights span several decades and showcase his talent across various genres. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Rodney Trotter in the popular British sitcom “Only Fools and Horses,” which aired from 1981 to 2003. His portrayal of Rodney, the younger brother of Del Boy Trotter, earned him critical acclaim and a dedicated fan following.
Apart from “Only Fools and Horses,” Lyndhurst’s acting career is filled with notable accomplishments. He appeared in the time-traveling sitcom “Goodnight Sweetheart” from 1993 to 1999, where he played the lead character, Gary Sparrow.
In his personal life, Nicholas Lyndhurst has been married to his wife, Lucy Smith, since 1999. The couple had a son named Archie, who tragically passed away at the age of 19 in 2020. This devastating loss greatly impacted Lyndhurst and his family, and they have since been involved in raising awareness about the condition (acute lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukemia) that led to Archie’s passing.
Nicholas Lyndhurst enjoys scuba diving, beekeeping, and piloting his own aircraft.
