He also appeared in several TV shows, such as Rab C. Nesbitt, The Bill, and Takin’ Over the Asylum.

In 1996, he moved to London and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. He played roles such as Romeo, Hamlet, and Richard II. He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Hamlet in 2008, which was later filmed for television. He also starred in several West End productions, such as Lobby Hero, Much Ado About Nothing, and Don Juan in Soho.

David Tennant’s breakthrough role was as the title character in the 2005 TV series Casanova, directed by Russell T. Davies. Davies then cast him as the tenth Doctor in Doctor Who, replacing Christopher Eccleston. Tennant played the role from 2005 to 2010, and again in 2013 for the 50th anniversary special. He won several awards and became one of the most popular Doctors in the history of the show. He returned to the show as the fourteenth Doctor from 2022 to 2023.

David Tennant’s other notable TV roles include DI Alec Hardy in the crime drama Broadchurch, Kilgrave in the superhero series Jessica Jones, Crowley in the fantasy series Good Omens and various versions of himself in the comedy series Staged.
