Mini Biography

Born: 6 March 1966, Loughton, Essex, England.

Alan Davies grew up with a natural flair for comedy. His passion for entertainment emerged during his formative years as he honed his comedic skills through school plays and local performances. Despite facing personal challenges growing up, including the loss of his mother at an early age, Davies persevered and found solace in making others laugh.

After completing his education at Loughton College of Further Education, Alan embarked on a career path that would showcase his versatility. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he gained recognition by performing stand-up comedy across the UK circuit. This led to appearances on popular television shows such as “The Stand-Up Show” and “Just for Laughs.”

However, it was Alan’s breakthrough role as Jonathan Creek in the eponymous mystery series that catapulted him into widespread fame. From 1997 to 2016 (with intermittent breaks), audiences were captivated by his portrayal of a quirky magician’s assistant turned amateur detective who solved baffling crimes using logic and illusion.

While Jonathan Creek remains one of Alan Davies’ most iconic roles to date; he has also left an indelible mark through various other ventures. Known for his quick wit and exceptional storytelling abilities, he became a regular panelist on Stephen Fry’s intellectual quiz show “QI” from its inception in 2003 until present.

Alan has graced both stage and screen with memorable performances in productions such as “Bob & Rose,” “A Many Splintered Thing,” “Whites,” and more recently in the critically acclaimed crime drama series “The Dog Thrower.” He continues to explore new avenues within acting while maintaining a strong presence within the live comedy circuit.

Alan’s passion for history and literature has led him to delve into the world of non-fiction writing. He authored “My Favourite People and Me: 1978-1988,” a memoir that explores his upbringing, influences, and fascination with popular culture during his formative years.
