Born: 6 October 1973, Aberdare, Wales.

Ioan Gruffudd is a Welsh actor who has been known for his roles in film and television series in the UK, the United States and Australia. He was born to Welsh parents who were both teachers. He has a brother, Alun and a sister, Siwan.

Ioan Gruffudd started his acting career at the age of 13 in a Welsh soap opera, Pobol y Cwm and later attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He made his screen debut in 1997, playing John Gray in Wilde and Harold Lowe in Titanic. He gained fame for his portrayal of Horatio Hornblower in the Hornblower series of television films from 1998 to 2003.

Ioan Gruffudd has appeared in various genres and mediums, such as Black Hawk Down, King Arthur, Fantastic Four and its sequel, Amazing Grace, W., Great Expectations, 102 Dalmatians, and Agatha Christie’s Marple. He has also worked on stage, in radio, and in video games. He has been praised for his versatility and talent as an actor and for his deep smooth voice.

Ioan Gruffudd married actress Alice Evans in 2007, after meeting her on the set of 102 Dalmatians. They have two daughters, Ella and Elsie. They divorced in 2023 and Gruffudd became engaged to Bianca Wallace, a publicist, in 2021. He lives in Los Angeles, Californi and holds dual citizenship of the UK and the US. He is fluent in Welsh and English and has a basic knowledge of French. He is a supporter of the British Heart Foundation and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
